Belle’s iconic yellow dress is nearly synonymous with the film and, as such, its re-creation has generated quite the buzz. Put to the test for this new film was costume designer Jacqueline Durran. In an exclusive interview with E! Online, Jacqueline shared all the fun facts about the gorgeous gown du moment. In terms of her modernization of the classic, Jacqueline explained, “We ended up creating a simple dress, because what was most important was the movement of the dress. It was a very soft structure built up by with meters and meters of silk organza dyed yellow and cut broadly in a circular shape, so that it emphasized her movement.” And now for the numbers: 18 Weeks: The time it took Jacqueline’s team to prepare the gown before shooting of the film began. 12,000 Hours: The total creation time, in full, for this iconic film look. 2160 Swarovski Crystals: The final count of embellished details that were added to the final product. 3,000 Feet: The total length of thread used for the construction. 180 Feet: The length of satin organza that was needed for the golden gown.
